Bainbridge Island Rowing offers a variety of sweep and sculling opportunities for both recreation/fitness and racing. Qualified adult members are welcome at all rows. Qualified visitors are also welcome to row for free up to two times. If you want to row with us, please register below.

Guest Rowers:

We welcome experienced rowers as guests to our club whether you want to give us a try to see if you would like to join our Club or if you are just in town visiting. Please fill out this form and sign our waiver and we will contact you. Guest rowers can row with BIR for up to one week in a given year before they are required to obtain a USRowing Membership or pay fees. If they would like to continue, either a punch card or sessions fees/club dues would be due.

PROGRAMS

We offer several programs for all levels. New rowers start with a Learn to Row class and then progress to our Open Group. Those interested in racing can join our Competitive Group once they are proficient in their rowing skills and have coach approval to join the team.

LEARN TO ROW CLASSES

Every spring through summer, we offer Learn to Row classes on the water. During the winter months, we often offer ‘Learn to Erg’ classes indoors on the erg (rowing machine). To learn more about our offerings, please visit our Learn to Row page to learn more.

ADULT OPEN – All Levels Sweep & Sculling

These sessions are open to adults of all experience levels. Emphasis will be on coach feedback, drills, and video review to improve technique and fitness. Practice will include sweep and sculling skills development. Coxing and launch volunteers will be utilized as needed on a rotational basis.

Prerequisites: Learn to Row class and Coach approval

You may mix Morning or Evening sessions to fit your schedule.

COMPETITIVE Sweep & Sculling

These sessions offer a fast-paced row focused on training and increasing the endurance needed for regattas. Practice will include sweep and sculling options depending on the participants. These sessions are a good fit for you if you are a proficient rower and committed to becoming a top-level rower. Race lineups will be given priority when possible. Coxing and launch-driving volunteers will be utilized as needed on a rotational basis. Saturdays are designated race days.

MEMBERSHIP DUES 2023:

Bainbridge Island Rowing is a club that is supported by its members and each year dues are assessed to each member.

$200 for the calendar year
$100 if joining after June 30, 2023

$100 Learn-to-Row graduates

ROWING FEES 2023:

These fees cover our rowing programs, coaching and equipment.

Adult Open and Competitive Groups

Annual Fee / February 26 – November 4: $1,075

Seasonal Rowing Fees: $644

  • Spring Season: February 21 – June 25
  • Summer/Fall Season:  June 26 – November 4

Rowing Punch Card (10 rows) $199  expires 2 years from the purchase date

Fitness Punch Card (10 off-water sessions) $104  expires 2 years from the purchase date

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Bainbridge Island Rowing is committed to making our programs available to everyone who wishes to participate, regardless of their ability to pay program fees. Financial assistance is available to those with need. BIR has partnered with Helpline House to establish financial assistance coverage amounts. Participants who receive financial aid are anonymous to coaches and all other program participants.

Private Lessons

If you cannot participate in our Learn to Row classes, or you want a refresher class after returning to rowing after a long absence, we offer private lessons with our coaches during the spring and summer.

Age: Open to ages 18 years and up. For athletes ages 14-18, please check out the BIR Junior Programs.

Private coaching rates:

  • $80 for one 1-1/2 hour lesson for up to two people
  • $300 for a package of four 1-1/2 hour lessons. Package classes can be split up into several sessions. Two person maximum for each lesson.
