BIR Masters – Programs

BIR offers morning, evening, and Saturday programs for Masters rowers. All rowing groups focus on rigorous workouts to improve rowing technique and conditioning for all rowers and on regatta preparation for competitive sweep rowers.

Morning Programs

Early Morning:

  • Spring season: March 1 – June 30 (off April 2 – 8): 17 weeks.
  • Fall season: July 5 – November 3 (off August 6 – September 2): 14 weeks.
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday: 4:45 – 6:15 a.m.
  • Skill level: Primarily competitive.

Mid-Morning:

  • Spring season: February 14 – June 30 (off February 19 – 25 and April 2 – 8): 18 weeks.
  • Fall season: July 5 to November 3 (off August 6 – September 2): 14 weeks.
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Skill level: Recreational and competitive.

Mid-Morning Sculling – Recreational & Novice:

  • Season: April 10 – September 29 (vacation times TBD): 18 weeks.
  • Skill level: Recreational and novice.
  • Practice schedule:
    • Recreational & Novice: Monday & Wednesday: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
    • Recreational only: Friday: 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Evening Programs:

  • Spring season: March 14 – July 1 (no off weeks): 16 weeks.
  • Fall season: July 1 – November 4 (off July 2 – 8 and September 3 – 7): 16 weeks.
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday & Thursday: 6:10 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday 7 – 9 a.m.
  • Skill level: Competitive, recreational/fitness, and novice. Recreational/fitness and novice group will have a coach and cox beginning in May. Each workout’s general framework will consist of warmup, conditioning, skills work, conditioning, and cool-down.

Saturday Programs

BIR’s popular Saturday morning program is open to all qualified Masters rowers wishing to build experience, fitness, and camaraderie! In addition, rowers who would like to be considered for the most competitive race boats row on Saturdays.

  • Spring season: February 11 – June 30 (off May 27): 18 sessions.
  • Fall season: July 1 – November 4 (off July 8, September 2): 17 sessions.
  • Practice schedule: 7:00 – 9:00 a.m.
  • Skill level: Recreational, competitive, & novice.

Sculling

An informal group of scullers meets most Saturday and Sunday mornings around 7 a.m. (or as soon as it starts getting light). For more information, please contact the Sculling coordinator: sculling@bainbridgerowing.org.
