BIR Masters – 2019 Programs

BIR offers morning, evening, and Saturday programs for Masters rowers. All rowing groups focus on rigorous workouts to improve rowing technique and conditioning for all rowers and on regatta preparation for competitive sweep rowers.

Morning Programs

Early Morning:

  • Spring season: February 25 – June 28
  • Fall season: July 1 – November 1
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday: 5:15 – 6:45 a.m.
  • Skill level: Primarily competitive

Mid-Morning Competitive:

  • Spring season: February 11 – June 28
  • Fall season: July 1 – November 1
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Skill level: Competitive

Mid-Morning Novice/Recreational Sweep:

  • Season: June 3 – October 31
  • Practice schedule: Monday, Thursday : 8:45 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Skill level: Recreational.  Focus is on skill building, good exercise, and a welcoming rowing community. Rowers might row in this group for many years to come, or choose to row more competitively in another group in future years.

Mid-Morning Sculling – Recreational & Novice:

  • Spring Season: April 22 – October 31
  • Skill level:  Welcomes rowers at all skill levels. This is our third year as a rowing group and we welcome new rowers.  We have tried and trued strategies for teaching you to row with two oars.
  • Practice schedule: M/W/F 8:45 am-11:00 am

Evening Programs

Evening Competitive Sweep Rowing:

  • Spring season: February 25 – June 28

  • Skill levels: Competitive, fitness.

  • Additional information: Competitive rowers will pay coxes and launch driver.

Evening Novice/Recreational Sweep Rowing

This is a new program aimed at new and returning rowers who are looking for opportunities to build their rowing skills and fitness.

  • Season: June 1 – October 31
  • Practice schedule: Tuesday, Thursday 6:10 – 8 p.m.
  • Recreational group.  Focus is on skill building, good exercise, and a welcoming rowing community.  Rowers might row in this group for many years, or choose to row more competitively in another group at any point.  evening@bainbridgerowing.org.
  • Evening Novice Rowing Group will begin in June and rows on Tu & Th from 6:10-8:00 pm.  This group is designed specifically for first year or returning rowers. We row at the same time as the  Evening Recreational/Competitive Sweep Rowing group, so there are opportunities to mix rowers between groups.

Saturday Programs

BIR’s popular Saturday morning program is open to all qualified Masters rowers wishing to build experience, fitness, and camaraderie! In addition, rowers who would like to be considered for the most competitive race boats row on Saturdays.

  • Fall season: July 1 – November 1
  • Practice schedule: 7:00 – 9:00 a.m.
  • Skill level: Recreational & competitive.
