BIR Juniors – Fall Season 2017

The BIR Fall Juniors Program is open to all Kitsap County students in 9th grade or higher. The goals for the 8-week season are to develop rowing technique, specifically with lower stroke rates and longer pieces, and to build strength, fitness, and flexibility. In the fall we focus primarily on longer distances to prepare rowers for “Head” style racing. In Head races, boats start one after another and race for time over a 5-kilometer course. Stamina and control in the boat are paramount, as is the quality of the coxswain’s steering and boat leadership. Most Fridays we will practice the race distance on our own challenging 5K loop through Eagle Harbor.
