From the 2019 Brentwood Regatta, this past weekend, April 26-28, at Brentwood College in Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, BIR girls emerged in first place overall out of 22 teams, with 480 regatta points. The Bainbridge boys were second overall out of 24 teams, with 230 points, after first-place Green Lake, which had 282.
The team traveled by bus to Port Angeles where they walked on the Coho Ferry to Victoria, BC. Once the ship docked, the team took two more buses north on Vancouver Island to Mill Bay for the 49th annual Brentwood Regatta at Brentwood College.
After Friday evening fireworks over Mill Bay and some Saturday morning races, the regatta went on a long pause due to windy conditions. Most races were postponed until Sunday morning. Racers enjoyed music on the quad and food in the cafeteria and tried to keep themselves occupied. Sunday morning, organizers started the events extra early to squeeze in as many races as possible before the event’s conclusion at noon.
But when the wind stopped and the sun broke out, BIR got to shine. The Varsity lightweight Women’s 8+ took gold in their final, as did the Varsity Women’s 8+, the Novice Men’s coxed quad, and the Novice Women’s 8+. The JV Women’s 8+, the Novice Men’s 8+, the Varsity Men’s 8+, and the Varsity Women’s 8+ all came home with silver medals.
Rowers grabbed lunch before climbing back on the buses and beginning the return journey home from the 2019 Brentwood Regatta.
Next up is the USRowing NW Youth Championships, which will be held in Vancouver, Washington, May 16-19.
