Bainbridge Island Rowing

Welcome to our Boathouse

Completed in 2023, the Stan Pocock Rowing Center has been made possible through the generous support of our family of donors and far reaching rowing network, and essential community grants.

The upper level features a large multipurpose Great Room with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto Waterfront Park and Eagle Harbor. Its doors open onto a wraparound deck which steps down directly onto the park lawn. This part of the building was literally built around the Quinault, a magnificent, historic cedar 8+ shell built by Stan Pocock which hangs from the ceiling. In the shadow of the Quinault, visitors take in The History Wall — a collection of treasured archived prints and artifacts. Learn about the rich history of rowing in the PNW including the legacy of Stan Pocock, the adventures of the Quinault, and the origins of women’s rowing.

Today the upstairs comfortably accommodates 40+ rowing machines for team on-land training sessions complete with a proper AV system to keep the rowers motivated. Athletes, staff, and community guests enjoy access to changing rooms with showers, a catering kitchen, fully equipped conference room, and coaches’ office.

The lower level is where the real magic happens. Two building-length boat bays securely house BIR’s fleet of rowing shells and equipment alongside a fully operational boathouse workshop.

The Stan Pocock Rowing Center is open to our community.
