PROGRAMS:
We offer programs that serve a range of rowing experience levels, interests, schedules and physical abilities. All programs include sweep and sculling options.
LEARN TO ROW
New rowers start with a Learn to Row program then progress to our Novice Team. After completing the rowing year as a Novice (or sooner with coach approval), new rowers may graduate to the Adult Open Team. Those interested in competing at regattas may elect to participate in appropriate race events with coach approval.
BIR offers Learn to Row sessions and private coaching options on the water from spring through summer. During the winter months, we also offer a Learn to Erg session indoors on the erg (rowing machine). While not a required prerequisite, Learn to Erg is a terrific precursor to Learn to Row. Visit our Learn to Row page for more information.
ADULT NOVICE
These sessions are open to adults of all experience levels, including Learn to Row graduates. Emphasis will be on developing technique, rowing as a team, and building fitness. Practices will include sweep and sculling skills development. Coxing and launch volunteers will be utilized as needed on a rotational basis.
Prerequisites: Learn to Row class and/or coach approval
ADULT OPEN – All Levels Sweep & Sculling
The Adult Open Team welcomes both recreational and competitive rowers. These sessions are a good fit for experienced rowers looking to continue developing their technical skills and speed, and those interested in competing in regattas. Practices will include sweep and sculling options depending on the participants. Race lineups will be given priority when possible. Coxing and launch-driving volunteers will be utilized as needed on a rotational basis.
