Two great ways to join us out on the water this summer!
Summer Crew 2025
(Open to all Kitsap County residents entering grades 9-12)
2-week summer sessions for returning rowers who have completed a regular spring season rowing.
This summer, we’re excited to offer a variety of rowing camps designed specifically for returning rowers who have completed a regular season at BIR or a Try Rowing Camp. Whether they choose to participate in one session or all three, each camp provides a unique focus and experience. From advancing sweep and coxswain skills to refining sculling techniques and preparing for competition, there’s something for every rower to dive into and enjoy!
Cost: $543 per 2-week session, plus $130 regatta fee
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7-9am
Session 1: Sweep & Coxswain Camp
Dates: June 24 – July 5 (with no rowing on the 4th)
This two-week camp focuses on sweep rowing in 4+ and 2- boats, emphasizing skill development and boat-moving strategies over high-intensity training.
Rowers: The daily schedule includes advanced sweep drills, video analysis, boat physics discussions, and on-the-water coaching to refine stroke efficiency and movement.
Coxswains: Coxswains will record drill execution and practice focuses, review them periodically with coaches, and enhance their library of calls to increase effectiveness. They will also participate in video analysis to learn drills for addressing technical issues in their boats.
Session 2: Sculling Camp
Dates: July 7 – July 18
This camp is ideal for rowers looking to develop their skills in 1x, 2x, and 4x boats. Sculling is a growing focus at BIR, and this session aims to build confidence and technique in smaller boats. Participants will learn the nuances of sculling technique versus sweep rowing while improving balance, boat control, and overall proficiency.
Session 3: Race Ready Camp
Dates: July 21 – August 2 (Includes the Green Lake Summer Extravaganza Regatta on August 2)
Prepare for the excitement of racing with this two-week camp that culminates in the Green Lake Summer Regatta. Rowers will train in both sweep and sculling boats, focusing on race starts, high stroke rates, and strategies for 1k races. Camp includes intrasquad competitions to simulate race conditions, giving participants the opportunity to practice and refine lineups over consecutive days. Come ready for high-energy practices, teamwork, and race preparation!
