Bainbridge Island Rowing

Learn to Row + Erg

We believe that rowing changes lives through teamwork, relationships, community, and the simple serenity of being out on the water. BIR is pleased to offer adult Learn to Row programs three times a year plus a Learn to Erg head start in the winter months.

Learn to Row 2026

Longtime BIR Coaches Kathy Maher and Barb Shane invite you to share in their love of rowing at a 2 week Learn to Row program in 2026. Each cohort will meet for a boathouse orientation on the first night followed by a float test at the Aquatic Center. A weekend intensive on our training barge kicks off 2 weeks of on-water learning.

Learn to Row graduates are invited to advance to our Adult Novice rowing sessions for 12 weeks before joining the full Adult Team. They also enjoy a generous discount on annual rowing fees to set them up for success as new members of Bainbridge Island Rowing.

Learn to Erg 2026

Learn to Erg is an 8 week group fitness course designed to teach the technique, mechanics, and lingo of rowing without actually hitting the water. This class can be taken on its own for fitness or in preparation for an upcoming Learn to Row session. It is not a prerequisite for learning to row, but it doesn’t hurt. Learn to Row registration opens in February — the full 2026 schedule is below.

Registration for LTE 2026 is now closed.
