We are excited to announce that the Port Townsend Rat Island Rowing & Sculling Club (RIRSC) Board has generously donated the historic, cedar built Pocock shell QUINAULT to BIR. This rowing shell has great significance to many rowers in the Puget Sound region. The UW Freshman crew won the National IRA Freshman race in 1951 in the QUINALT (pictured above), and it was used again the following year in the Olympic Time Trials.
BIR is very grateful to Jim Buckly and RIRSC for their generous donation and their enthusiasm to see the Quinault live on in history at our new rowing center. We also wish to thank Guy Harper for all of this work in helping the QUINAULT to find a new home with BIR.
