Rounding Out Juniors Spring Season in Style: Two Boats Headed to Nationals

The BIR 2018 Spring Season has glittered in the different colors of metal earned at three major regattas and the USRowing Northwest Youth Championships (Regionals). Overall, BIR has pocketed 11 gold, 8 silver, and 18 bronze medals this spring – see full results below.

BIR athletes were frequently serious contenders even when they didn’t come home with medals. At the NW Regional Championships, Bainbridge made its way into 14 of the regatta’s finals with 17 different boats. We are very proud of all our Junior athletes!

As a result of their success at the Junior NW Regional Championships, BIR will be sending our Girls’ Varsity 4+ (Tessa Longley, Olivia Pells, Julia Batson, Gracie Dymoke, and Olivia Zachariah, cox) and Boys’ Lightweight 4+ (Noah Faust, Colin Lindquist, Josh Philip, Hudson Dore, and Veronica Liberman, cox) boats to the USRowing Youth National Championships on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, CA on June 8-10, 2018.

If you look on the waters of Eagle Harbor over the next few days, you will see these rowers and coxswains continuing to work hard in preparation for the pinnacle of US Junior rowing. They leave on Tuesday, June 5th, knowing they have the support of the BIR family behind them.

BIR Girls’ Varsity 4+ (Tessa Longley, Olivia Pells, Julia Batson, Gracie Dymoke, and Olivia Zachariah, cox)

It is a special honor to have this group of rowers representing us on a national level. Unfortunately, this opportunity comes at a considerable expense. The financial toll of our rowers’ travel, lodging and meals comes with very little notice and often considerable burden to their families. Only coaching, shell transportation and regatta fees are covered under our annual budget.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help send our BIR rowers and coxswains to Nationals. These donations will be used to help defray the cost of their travel, lodging and meals, and lessen the financial burden on the athletes and their families.

DONATE TO HELP SEND BIR CREWS TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

If you would prefer to donate by mail, please make checks payable to BIR and note “for National Team” in the memo section of your check. Mail checks to: Bainbridge Island Rowing, 221 Winslow Way West #102, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

We and all our rowers headed to Nationals are truly grateful for whatever you can do to help.
