BIR COVID-19 UPDATE: March 12, 2020

Dear BIR family,

Bainbridge Island Rowing will halt all rowing programs beginning immediately for a period of three weeks.

At that time the board will reassess the situation based on the latest available information from health officials. Please read this entire notice for important communications regarding this closure.

Friday March 13th Junior and Master practices have been canceled. No group gatherings of any kind will take place at the Stan Pocock Legacy Rowing Center until further notice.

Group gatherings in the Pacific Northwest are all in a state of flux, for that reason no non-refundable regatta travel pans should be made at this time.

Bainbridge Island Rowing is a non-profit organization, but many of our staff still rely on income generated through our programs. For that reason the BIR Board has committed to pay their salaries during this difficult time. We appreciate your support in this and your patience as we navigate this new scenario.

Our dedicated coaching staff are already working on cross-training opportunities to keep rowers fit and healthy throughout the season. You will be hearing more from them directly in the next few days. Expect to learn about competitive workouts, training programs, and more that can be done remotely.

We are deeply focused on doing what is best for our larger community. Our wonderful BIR families can help during this time by following health department recommendations for social distancing to help slow the spread of Covid-19. As a community let’s put the benefits of the whole above those of the individual, because we’re all in this boat together.

Thank you for your understanding and support,

Sue Entress and the BIR Board
