2020 Junior Fall Crew Info

After extensive and thoughtful planning, BIR is proud to offer:
2020 Junior Fall Crew!

If your student is interested in participating in Fall Crew, please add their name to the list by Sunday, 8/16 (using this jotform link). Participation is limited to 60 rowers (including 20 novice rowers maximum) and a pre-registration headcount is critical to our planning. https://form.jotform.com/202195429715054

What will BIR 2020 Fall Crew look like?

BIR will be offering a single-rower boat (1x) based program which alternates personalized on-water technique instruction with land-based fitness training. We’re committed to this being a fun, fulfilling and unique experience! Rowers can expect fitness and technique-based, friendly competitive opportunities throughout the season.

Who can participate?

Fall Crew will be open to all Kitsap County students entering grades 9-12.

When/where will we practice?

BIR Junior Fall Crew will run 5x/week (M-F); Tuesday, Sept. 8th – Friday, Oct. 30th.

Practice times/locations will vary by pod but will complement the BHS school schedule.
  • Monday: 1.5 hours; Rowing only, at Waterfront Park
  • 2x/week: 2.5 hours; Rowing and Land Workout, at Waterfront Park
  • 2x/week: 1.5 hours; Land Workout at one of two “outdoor, offsite locations” (exact locations will be on-island and determined by group size/activity).

How will COVID-19 Safety protocol be followed?

Rowers will be placed in “pods” of 5 (pod placement will be made by coaches and based on rower experience in single shells). Rowers will maintain activity specific, safe social distances on land and water. Masks will be worn on land, except when actively exercising. Equipment will be sanitized between uses. Pod start times will be staggered to assure maximum group sizes of 5, socially distanced rowers.

Program Fee:

Approximately $650.
The cost will be adjusted based on the total headcount. There will not be any regatta fees, and scholarships are available to any rowers with financial need. BIR is committed to keeping our programs affordable and is extremely grateful to the Bainbridge Community Foundation for a 2020 grant which allows us to offer Junior Fall Crew with this expanded coach-to-rower ratio, at a reasonable fee.

Important Safety Guidelines:

Participation in group sporting activity at this time requires great care and careful consideration. Rowers are expected to work with coaches to maintain safe COVID-19 protocol. Participation is strictly limited to rowers who are willing and able to follow safety protocols. Please consider current COVID-19 safety protocols carefully when planning any parent-led carpools to and from practice.

BIR is thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity to our student athletes!
